I just finished Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert. This is a luscious book; I savored every page.
Gilbert is a witty author. He’s also a Harvard psychologist who has collected hundreds of great little stories to make his point. In a nutshell: we don’t know what we think. The slightest whim can change that reconstruction of the past we call memory. Weird as it sounds, I conclude that our brains are smarter than we are.
Random House has put up a website for the book. Check it out. It has excerpts.

Decisions, decisions.

Jay, I hope you read the comments on my post about Rothko. Everyone loves your Rothko-style photos. Thanks for letting me post them.
Have you read Blink or The Tipping Point

Mary, I’ve read the comments. I am flattered. Other “life imitates art” photos are my latest upload to Flickr.
Yes, I’ve read Blink and The Tipping Point, and talked with Malcolm several times. Great books that act as a wake-up call to those who still live in a lock-step, linear world.
