I am back in Berkeley after a longer-than-expected flight home from Barcelona. British Airways failed to send my suitcase from Heathrow to Calgary yesterday. A two-hour runaround by clueless airline personnel caused me to miss my flight to San Francisco. I spent last night in a Quality Inn. in the nude and without a toothbrush, and caught a 6:30 am flight home. What a comedown. I’d become accustomed to free-flowing champagne, tasty delicacies, and super-wide seats. Breakfast in First Class on United Express was a choice of bagel chips, fruit bars, or apricot bits.
It is wonderful to be working on a full size monitor again. For the past week, I’ve been trying to write a few stories on my ThinkPad X60. It’s 12″ screen is torture to work with. My 22″ ViewSonic (tethered to the same X60) is so, so much better. By the end of the year, I’ll probably have bought myself one of those beautiful giant monitors I see at the Apple Store.
Take a look at The Story of Light and People, a fabulous read on Nikon’s site. Their Universcale is an update of Charles and Ray Eames’ Powers of Ten without the drama. And who better than Nikon to produce 18 Steps to Taking Better Pictures?
