VNU, the publisher of Training magazine, has a new website entitled ManageSmarter, which is shared with several other magazines. I just noticed the site today when the August issue of Training arrived
I like the fact that many stories from the magazine are online. Seeing Sales & Marketing Management here is also a plus.
On the downside, the site is a Web 1.0 billboard: no place for reader comments unless you go to the blogs, which aren’t tied to the articles. The site feels a little slick for my taste. News from Around the Web, presumably a syndication, repeats the same Learn.com announcement five times in a row. There’s no link to a webmaster to report broken links and glitches. The Glossary is a little strange, e.g.:
Award: Something awarded or granted, as for merit.
Evaluation: The process by which a training program is judged in its effectiveness. The most common was developed by Donald Kirkpatrick who determined a five-level [sic] evaluation system.
Instructional Designer: Someone who creates a training course.
Job rotation: The process of doing jobs for a time instead of your own.
Leadership Development: The training or courses that teach someone how to be a better leader.
LCMS: Learning Content Management System. It’s a system that lets training professionals keep track of the courses they have.
Value-Added: Merchandise that includes something of value designed to encourage an individual to choose one product over another.
I’ll comment on the blog, Training Day, after more than one person has posted something.

No RSS either. And the whole site seems to suffer from a hostility complex.

…like there is on this site?
If there is one, it’s not obvious to me. And if I’m not the only person who can’t find it after deliberately looking for it, is that much different than it not being there? But I have been known to miss what’s staring me in the face, and I’m use to cleaning egg off my face.
If there is no such link, wouldn’t you say we have a case here of the pot calling the kettle black?
If you choose not to publish this comment, s’okay. I made it more to get a reply than to see my name in lights. Best wishes for this and all your endeavors.

Excellent point. I’m in the midst of re-doing this site top to bottom and will try to follow my own advice!
I did find RSS, but other stuff caught my ire . . . a font size that is so small as to be miniscule (and not resizable), animated ads all over the page (really distracting if you are trying to read), and mention of various people and organizations but nary a link.
Just another opportunity for me to learn from others . . . what not to do.
Loretta,
God help me, I still can’t find any RSS for the main site. The Training Day blog has RSS but now I’ve lost sight of the link to the blog from the main page.
